“Be a Rider! Not a Passenger!”

My love and passion for horses started…  What I enjoy most about teaching riders is…

I owned and managed my own farm, Star Ridge Stables, for 15 years. I had between 30 to 45 horses in my care and taught over 75 students per week.

I have been a horseback riding instructor for over 25 years. The most important lessons I teach my students are not about how to ride a horse but about life; the sense of responsibility, empathy and compassion; important skills of confidence, thinking, and strong self-esteem; to be a part of something bigger than themselves by putting the animal first, showing sportsmanship and maintaining relationships with others.

I have built my career in a variety of roles within the equine industry. In the past, I have helped 4 different programs develop or redevelop their riding programs. I have been an Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) team and Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) team coach and clinician. The honor of my word is the foundation of my reputation.

I am open to personal growth. I never thought I would return to college for another degree. In May 2015, I completed my Master in Arts of Education. I was so proud of myself.

I have been an entrepreneur, a successful businesswoman, and a college director. My most important roles have been a mentor and a mama. I believe family, community and growth are the most important aspects in life. I never knew the true meaning of family until my husband, Steve, and I adopted our son Jackson in 2014. Then in 2018, we opened our home and hearts to three teenagers in need of a family: Maria, Desi, and Enrique.
